In-Depth Details: Wedding Cake Strain Profile
Wedding Cake, also known as Pink Cookies, is a 60/40 indica-leaning hybrid cross between Girl Scout Cookies and Cherry Pie. It checks in at a massive 20-25% THC on average and offers some of the highest concentrations of terpenes like Limonene, Myrcene, and b-Caryophyllene you can find in cannabis. There is a fair amount of controversy surrounding the original breeder of the strain, though many credit the successes of the strain to Seed Junky Genetics. However, there are so many different versions of the strain floating around that it's hard to tell. Many versions claim that Wedding Cake is a cross between Triangle Kush and Animal Mints, though this cross is a newer one on the radar. True Wedding Cake has been around for years and is made with the classic cross and may go by the name Pink Cookies alternatively.
Wedding Cake plants are gorgeous, boasting rich green foliage and dense, frosted colas on long stalks with broad water leaves. The colas can swell to massive sizes, so it's important to trim, top, and train these plants early on to encourage the highest yields when she finally flips into the flower cycle. Wedding Cake flowers are high yielders, and each massive cola can be broken down into ounces of individual buds. The flowers themselves are hard to describe at first glance since they're completely coated in THC-rich trichomes which give them a crystalline, frosted appearance. However, when broken apart you can see their rich, dark green hues and bright orange pistils.
Wedding Cake plants produce a very pungent, cake-like aroma. Many compare it to vanilla cream or coffee cake, though the scent is known to refine a bit as it dries. Dried flowers take on more of a rich, earthy aroma, though notes of lemon citrus shine still through. However, when these dried flowers are ground up, they emit a rich, berry-like aroma. As the strain burns, you'll notice more spicy, pungent tones similar to wood and pepper alongside those lemon and earth tones.
The flavor on the other hand is spectacular in a unique and interesting way. An inhale brings those herbal, earth tones forward, leaving you with a very rich smoke that is sure to make you cough. However, Wedding Cake is notably on the peppery side, filling your mouth with spicy, herbal notes before mellowing into something more palatable. As you exhale the smoke, you'll notice a very rich, creamy flavor alongside a berry and citrus flavor. Wedding Cake tastes like a blackberry lemon bar, except with the explosive addition of black pepper undertones.
The effects of the Wedding Cake strain set in almost immediately with a rich blast of upbeat cerebral energy to the brain. The first sensation is that of a notable boost in creativity and energy, leaving you feeling overly positive and happy. However, after the cerebral effects peak, you'll find Wedding Cake to be incredibly relaxing. The strain travles through your body, soothing and relaxing all muscle groups ultimately causing a good sense of couch-lock. When enjoyed at night, Wedding Cake is great for helping you fall and stay asleep.
These effects coupled with a higher than average potency level (20-25% THC) and therapeutic terpenes like myrcene, b-caryophyllene, and limonene come together to make the Wedding Cake strain one of the most medicinally valuable strains out there for a variety of physical and mental ailments. On the mental side, Wedding Cake is great for combatting symptoms of depression and stress. However, in high doses it's also great for insomnia. As the mental effects subside, you'll notice Wedding Cake is an excellent choice against aches and pains, nausea, lack of appetite, and headaches.
Like most cannabis strains, Wedding Cake may come with some side effects. In most cases, you can expect to experience dry eyes or cottonmouth. As a strain with indica-dominant effects, Wedding Cake may also cause couch-lock in higher doses. With that in mind, take care to remember that cannabis is an excellent medicine for managing chronic symptoms, but it isn't a cure-all. It's just a safe, effective alternative for the treatment and management of many chronic symptoms. For standard symptoms, Wedding Cake is a great choice for medical patients in Colorado Springs seeking physical relief at any time of day. The strain's potency levels and above-average terpene content make it a popular choice among patients who visit our dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.
The Epic Remedy's Wedding Cake Strain Review
Wedding Cake is one of those strains that you can find at virtually every dispensary from here to Canada and back. It's also one of those strains that tastes and smells pretty different depending on where it was grown and which version of the strain it is. With Wedding Cake, you either have the Pink Cookies version or you have the Jungle Boys version, and both are wildly different. Heck, there are like 10 different Wedding Cake versions out there. Some throw in a little OG Kush, some backcrossed the Cherry Pie before breeding, and so on so forth. That said, Wedding Cake is easily one of the most counterfeit strains of all time, largely thanks to Leafly naming it Strain of the Year in 2019 and encouraging everyone and their mama to start growing it themselves.
All that aside though, The Epic Remedy grows the Pink Cookies version, which is the original cross between Girl Scout Cookies and Cherry Pie. Pink Cookies offers more of a medicinal whole-body experience while the Jungle Boys hype version of Wedding Cake is more for cerebral effects and potency. There's just a clear distinction there that was worth prefacing my personal review with. But with that out of the way, we can dive right in.
Our Wedding Cake buds are gorgeous, as you can see throughout this article. They're exceptionally frosty and tend to be quite dense, so an 1/8th of our Wedding Cake can look like a lot less than that at a glance. They range in shades of dark greens, though you can't really tell unless you grind the buds up yourself since they all have such a thick blanket of trichomes giving them a crystalline appearance. The frost is just a clear indicator of how potent these buds truly are.
They smell super unique, too. While growing they offer that classic cookies-fam aroma, similar to vanilla and a rich creamy cakey-ness. However, they release lots of unique fruit and berry terps when ground up. The most interesting aspect is definitely the flavor, which compiles both of these alongside an aggressive pepper-like flavor.
The effects kick in hard and fast, and always help me to feel ultimately relaxed. It's mentally uplifting and somewhat energizing and inspiring, but exceptionally physically relaxing. The strain is definitely a better choice for physical symptoms like pain and headaches, though it will definitely cause a hunger-spike making it a great addition to your medicine cabinet when you need to combat nausea or other tummy troubles.
Ultimately the strain feels very balanced, just slightly more physically relaxing than anything. Wedding Cake looks, tastes, and smells awesome but it also offers a ton of great effects for medical patients and general users. If you haven't had the chance to try some of it for yourself, be sure to stop by any one of our three Colorado Springs medical dispensaries. Just be sure to check out menus or give us a call first before you stop by to make sure that it's in stock at your preferred location. This week's secret code is "CAKE". Original, I know.
