In-Depth Details: Stardawg Strain Profile
Stardawg is a 90/10 sativa-dominant hybrid cross between classic Chemdawg #4 and Tres Dawg. It was first propagated by Top Dawg Seed Company who are the masterminds behind legendary strains like Chemdawg #4, Sour Diesel, 3 OG's, and I-95. The strain contains moderate to high concentrations of THC between 16% and 25% THC, making it the perfect choice for long-lasting, all-day medicine.
Stardawg is a beautiful strain through and through. It boasts a variety of beautiful shades of light green to golden yellow, and each flower is coated with a thick blanket of THC-laden trichomes and bright orange to sandy brown pistils. The strain grows in standard sativa fashion, with skinny water leaves and larfier plant structure. However, the colas are more indica-dominant. Each one is packed tightly with several smaller spade-shaped nugs.
Stardawg has a very unique flavor and odor profile. Its primary terpenes include beta-caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene, which all promote earthy flavors of spice and citrus. On the nose, the flowers are very pungent and earthy. However, they release a ton of exciting scents when they're ground or agitated. The first impression of the smell is that of mint and pine, though it's quickly overtaken by pungent earthy notes of spice and fuel.
The flavor is very similar, starting out very herbal and refreshing on the inhale. It creates a very rich, peppery smoke that is sure to make you cough with its sour fuel-tinged notes. The exhale brings forward more natural notes of a pungent muskiness, though the aftertaste is largely that of lemons and fuel. Overall, it's quite unique and refreshing, though its bound to make you cough.
The effects of Stardawg root primarily in the back of the head, neck, and eyelids. The effects tend to creep up on you, starting off as very uplifting, energizing, and focusing. However, the longer you sit with the effects, the more effects take hold. Stardawg is very mentally pacifying and uplifting in nature. It leaves the user feeling euphoric and mellow with a notable uptick in energy. The mental effects are robust, though gentle, rarely leading to negative sativa-dominant side-effects such as anxiety or paranoia. After the initial lift, the effects tend to last in mind for several hours, boosting creativity, motivation, and focus. As time goes on, a gentle body buzz makes an appearance, chasing away minor aches and pains and leaving you feeling your best.
These effects coupled with a moderate to high THC average make the Stardawg strain great cannabis medicine among users who require relief from a variety of ills and ailments. As a sativa-dominant mostly-cerebral strain, Stardawg is best for patients seeking relief from mental ailments such as chronic stress, fatigue, depression, social anxiety, and attention deficit or hyperactivity disorders. It does offer some potent relief against minor aches and pains, muscle spasms, headaches, and nausea too though. Overall, Stardawg makes for great daytime medicine thanks to its long lasting mix of effects.
The only thing you may want to consider when picking cannabis medicine is side effects. Stardawg is pretty balanced in nature, offering the best mix between indica and sativa effects. However, the potent cerebral energy can come on a little too strong for novice cannabis users and people who are sensitive to THC, leading to anxiety or paranoia. To avoid it, be sure to start with a low dose until you know how the strain affects you. Other side effects may include dry eyes and cottonmouth.
The Epic Remedy's Stardawg Strain Review
Stardawg is one of those strains that everyone seems to have but not everyone seems to get right. I think there's a great deal of counterfeit versions of the strain floating around out there, much like Blue Dream. Some dude walks into a dispensary with a backpack full of flower with no idea what it is, so sells it wholesale to the storefront as Blue Dream or Stardawg or AK-47. Something that people know enough to trust, regardless of whether or not its the real thing.
I can however vouch for our version. The Epic Remedy received the seeds for this strain directly from the original breeder and have worked out many of the kinks involved in cultivation. Truth be told, it thrives over here. I've seen it growing, and I've seen it in the bag and the quality is top-notch, but I digress. Dispensaries who grow their own just do better.
I went in today to pick up a couple of 1/8ths for my profiles and reviews, asking for 2 bags with some good-sized, drool-worthy flowers inside. I wasn't disappointed to be sent home with Stardawg and Purple Punch, two strains I've yet to cover. After running a few other errands and photographing both strains, I was able to sample our Stardawg for the review.
The strain itself is a beauty. Very easy on the eyes. Uniform, spade-shaped flowers with beautifully contrasting colors and a thick layer of silvery-white trichomes that make the flowers very sticky to the touch. I had to put on gloves to photograph them to keep my fingers from getting too sticky to operate the camera. Once all of that was situated, I decided to try some for the review.
As usual, I first broke the larger nugs with my fingers to coax out some of the terps. Break a few between your fingers and you'll find some notably minty terps with a dank sour muskiness behind it. If you run them through a grinder afterward, you'll discover more unique notes, including a peppery spice, fuel, lemons, and more of that sour earthiness. It smells very zesty and energizing overall.
The flavor is where things get interesting though. The inhale is notably herbal and refreshing, similar to those minty terps in the scent profile with added hints of pine. The smoke itself is quite thick, replacing any herbal notes with a peppery spice and a cough-inducing fuel flavor along with a pungent earthiness. On the exhale, Stardawg mellows out a bit, allowing for a fuel-tinged earthen flavor to take hold, leaving behind a notably lemon aftertaste.
The effects take hold pretty immediately, melting away feelings of stress and sour moods. It replaces negativity and sluggishness with a powerfully energizing and uplifting effect. In some cases, it makes way for the giggles, leaving you feeling blissful and overall happy. As a sativa-dominant hybrid, Stardawg effects are centralized in the mind. I felt it the most in my head, behind my eyes, and in my neck. However, it does also provide a gently numbing body buzz that can help with aches and pains.
I'll be honest, I myself am going through a bit of a depression and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to try this one out. Smoking it helped me to actually focus on my job, distracting me from the bad things that are affecting my mood and mentality. It also soothed minor aches and pains and energized me to the point where I was able to focus solely on one task at a time, giving it my all.
I'd say Stardawg is a great choice for anyone in a bad mood or for people suffering from depression, fatigue, chronic stress, and minor aches and pains. If I had to rate it, I'd have to say that it's a perfect 10. Sativa-dominant strains are definitely my favorite, but the balanced effects of Stardawg rarely lead to anxiety or paranoia. It has great potency and can help with a variety of ills and ailments. It also smells and tastes great and is pretty beautiful to look at. Whether you need to take the edge of or you're simply looking for a great strain for long-lasting, all-day relief, I think you'll love Stardawg.
