In-Depth Details: Sour Maui Strain Profile
The Sour Maui strain is a 50/50 hybrid cross between world-renowned Sour Diesel and Maui Waui. It was first propagated by an unknown breeder in an unknown location, but the strain has since made its way into dispensaries all over the country. Many people love the Sour Maui strain for its tropical diesel aroma and its gently invigorating and slightly-sativa leaning effects.
Sour Maui grows in standard sativa-dominant fashion with larfier plant structure, stalks, and narrow water leaves. However, the strain is on the high-yielding side for a sativa and given ample space, she swells to monstrous sizes. Her colas are sparse, but large and break into lots and lots of smaller popcorn-shaped buds. When the flowers dry, they take on a very light green and yellow coloration which may appear slightly subdued due to its bright orange and brown pistils and the silvery veneer of trichomes thoroughly coating each flower.
As she grows, Sour Maui takes on a very loud lemon-like aroma. It offers a pungent citrusy musk in addition to a unique fuel-like aroma that can overpower an entire room at the end of the flower cycle. As the strain dries, the fuel aroma becomes slightly subdued and fruitier, allowing tropical notes to come forward in addition to a pungent earthiness. When the flowers are ground, those bright lemon citrus and diesel notes become more prominent.
Sour Maui tastes very similar to its scent, though it shines in those tropical fruit notes more than the lemon, fuel or earth notes. On an inhale, you'll notice a pungent earthiness in the smoke. However, as you enjoy the smoke, you'll notice a lot of those tropical fruit notes unfolding, allowing you to detect hints of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, and lime notes. On the exhale, those pungent fuel notes come rushing back, leaving a lasting impression of tropical lemon and diesel fuel.
The effects take hold almost immediately, offering quick relief from many common mental ailments like depression, PMS, mood swings. The effects are mostly cerebral in nature though they do offer a gently relaxing effect in the body that can help soothe away pain without slowing you down. Many users and medical patients agree that the Sour Maui strain is very positive and upbeat, melting away stresses and replacing negative thoughts with bright mental energy, creativity, and potent euphoria.
These effects coupled with a higher than average THC content of 18-24% THC and energizing and relaxing terpenes like Myrcene, Limonene, and b-Caryophyllene make Sour Maui an excellent choice among medical patients seeking both physical and mental relief. It's a great choice for correcting your mental state and can help soothe the symptoms of depression, stress, mood swings, PMS, and fatigue. It also has a unique energizing and creativity-boosting effect that seems to make it easier for people with attention deficit disorders to focus and stay engaged. On the physical side, Sour Maui is also a great choice for managing minor aches and pains, headaches, and a lack of appetite as it's likely to cause the munchies.
However, like most strains, Sour Maui may also cause cottonmouth and dry eyes. If you are sensitive to the cerebral effects most prevalent in sativa-dominant strains, you may also experience anxiety in higher doses. But aside from that, Sour Maui is shown to be an exceptionally viable medical cannabis strain. Be sure to keep in mind that cannabis is an excellent medicine for managing chronic symptoms, but remember that it isn't a cure-all. It's just a safe, effective alternative for the treatment and management of many chronic symptoms. For general use, Sour Maui is one of the best strains out there for medical cannabis patients. It's potency levels combined with its helpful body buzz and positive cerebral effects make the strain a popular choice among patients who visit our dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.
The Epic Remedy's Sour Maui Strain Review
With all this snow, smoking something tropical sounded extremely refreshing. I ADORE laying around and imagining being warm on a beach somewhere while I sit in my house under 5 blankets and 4 pairs of socks smoking weed. That said, Sour Maui seemed like the natural choice for this week's review.
I was overall pretty impressed with the buds in my baggy. They were exceptionally fragrant and overpowered the room with tropical fruit and diesel-funk as soon as I'd opened the bag. To me, that's always a great sign. I took the nuggies out of the bag to observe them and noticed that they were all pretty uniform. On the smaller side, but that seems to be more or less the structure of the flowers than anything else. Light, fluffy, popcorn buds and lots of them.
I packed a few of them into my grinder and twisted to find that the buds had released an AGGRESSIVE lemon scent with a dank fuel-like tinge. My mouth started watering and I couldn't wait to spark 'em up from my couch. The first few puffs hit me cerebrally pretty hard. I found myself feeling super upbeat and giggly, but also mellowed out. Some sativa-highs feel a little too speedy sometimes, but this one was a nice, gentle pace with a lot of positive energy flowing through me. I felt pretty euphoric and uplifted but also energetic, creative, and focused. With a long day of doing the most ahead of me, it was a welcome change to my headspace.
The effects settled first in the mind, but eventually in the body, too. The body buzz is definitely not going to slow you down, but it will have you feeling quite relaxed in areas of pain. For me, that's my shoulders and neck from sitting like a banana all day. It settles gently in the limbs and allows for relaxation while keeping your mind mentally engaged and upbeat. Fair warning, it definitely gave me a case of the munchies, so if you suffer from a lack of appetite but aren't as interested in indica strains, you'll probably love this strain. From a MMJ patient standpoint, it's great for minor body aches and pains as well as depression, stress, fatigue, mood swings, and even PMS.
The flavor was pretty impressive too. It was a lot like the aroma, but instead of being lemon-forward, it tasted more like pineapple and general citrus to me. Sour Maui is also pretty dank, with lots of diesel-fuel notes and a bright citrus aftertaste. All in all, the strain looks, tastes, and smells awesome but it also offers a ton of great effects for medical patients and general users. If you haven't had the chance to try some for yourself, be sure to stop by any one of our three Colorado Springs medical dispensaries.
