In-Depth Details: Purple Punch Strain Profile

The Purple Punch strain is an indica-dominant hybrid cross between Larry OG and Granddaddy Purple. It was originally bred by Hawaii-based Supernova Gardens. However, The Village often gets credited for taking the strain from little-known to superstar status in a short amount of time. Regardless, the strain has become one of the most popular strains in legal markets thanks to its high potency (between 18-22% THC) and mix of physical and mental effects.

The strain is a beauty, with many vibrant shades of green and purple hues that give it a candy-like appearance. Purple Punch grows in standard indica-dominant fashion, throwing broad water leaves and huge, heavily compacted colas. The colas break down into many green and purple colored spade-shaped nuggets that are extremely sticky and covered in lots of crystalline trichomes. The strain is truly eye-catching both on the plant and in the jar thanks to its extremely bright orange pistils that contrast with the green and purple shades beautifully.

With a candy-like appearance, you may expect this one to have a candy-like aroma, and you wouldn't be wrong. As she grows, Purple Punch flowers smell extremely sweet and herbal, offering a unique tart sweetness with creamy blueberry undertones that envelop a room. The same can be said for dried flowers, though the true terpene experience shines through when the strain is agitated via crumbling or grinding. When the flowers are ground, they release some unique funky and sour terps similar to lemons and pine.

The flavor is similarly unique. On an inhale, you can detect mostly bright herbal notes and a notable sour sweetness. The smoke itself is also sour, but very very creamy, leaving a lasting creaminess on the tongue. The flavor shows its true colors on the exhale, leaving behind an aftertaste similar to tart blue kool-aid, purple candies, and warm, creamy blueberry muffins.

During that final exhale, the effects of the Purple Punch strain take hold. Not surprisingly, it roots itself in your mentality first and foremost, chasing away sour moods and fading into a happy, giggly, and uplifted euphoria. As the effects settle in, the strain promotes a creeping body high. It starts in the head and makes its way through the body and settles in the limbs, soothing and relaxing muscles along the way before sending you to a deep, restful dreamland.

These effects mixed with the medium-high THC content makes Purple Punch one of the best strains available for medical cannabis patients. Its mental effects are a great choice for managing symptoms of chronic stress and depression. However, this strain really shines in the physical relief category, allowing for comfortable management of pain, nausea, headaches, and inflammation. The physical relief coupled with the mental effects makes for an ultra-soothing strain that is best used at night in patients who suffer from sleep-related conditions, including insomnia.

While considering a new cannabis strain for medicinal use, keep side effects in mind. Purple Punch is pretty balanced, providing relief in both the mind and the body. However, its indica-dominant nature makes it more likely to experience couch-lock or a case of the munchies. It can also cause dry eyes and cottonmouth. As with most strains, start with a small dose of Purple Punch to see how the strain affects you before you take a massive hit. If you are a novice user or more sensitive to THC or terpenes, high doses could cause anxiety or paranoia.

All in all, Purple Punch is extremely popular for its unique appearance, delicious flavors, and balanced effects that make for the perfect nighttime cannabis medicine.

The Epic Remedy's Purple Punch Strain Review

Purple Punch is easily one of the most popular indica strains of the last 5 years. It's available at some of the best dispensaries in the state and everyone's version is basically the same. It's one of those strains where you can't really go wrong with it. It smells and tastes consistently everywhere and is easily recognizable from its unique appearance.

Our version is no different, though ours tests at slightly above-average potency. I grabbed a bag the last time I stopped in to drop something off. I was getting tired of running errands that day and wanted to just go home, unwind, and relax and figured I could grab a classic strain and knock out another review for the archive.

Purple Punch was a great choice for the intents and purposes. The strain is powerfully euphoric and mentally uplifting. The first puff hit me behind my eyes and in my sinuses thanks to the rush of THC and peppery terps to the dome. The first exhale had my body relaxed almost immediately, melting away the symptoms of stress and anxiety that I hold in my shoulders and stomach. Another inhale and a deep exhale, and my mentality shifted from angsty and tired to cool and collected. The relief I felt in my body was perfect. I immediately unclenched my jaw and softened my brow, allowing the strain to take over my limbs, soothing my muscles along the way and leaving me feeling blissfully relaxed, mentally content, and overall happy and euphoric.

I ended up sticking with the strain for the rest of the night. It gave me a wicked case of the munchies and a touch of cottonmouth so I ended up DoorDashing some dinner since the strain had me couch-locked. However, it wasn't one of those strains where the couch lock is so intense that it kinda makes you crabby. (Does that happen to anyone else, or is it just me? I swear when a strain makes me too tired I get ANGRY.) After a nice meal, Purple Punch lulled me into a deep, restful sleep. I didn't wake up in the night and I woke up feeling much more refreshed and way less stressed out than I do when weed doesn't put me to sleep.

Purple Punch was excellent for the initial purpose, though the strain itself transcends usefulness with sheer deliciousness, amazing aromas, beauty, and balanced physical and mental effects. It's very easy on the eyes, with a nearly alien-like appearance of vibrant greens and purples with crystalline trichomes and contrasting orange pistils. Plus with a purple candy flavor and that tart sour kool-aid aroma, Purple Punch is just all-around impressive. If you haven't tried it yet, it's available pretty often at all three of our Colorado Springs medical dispensaries.
