The Quick Rundown: Epic Remedy's Jack Frost Strain Profile
To get you all warmed up to the Jack Frost strain, here are the most important details right off the bat. While the rest of this profile and review covers the Jack Frost flower, the effects and flavors are still very similar in hybrid strains crossed with Jack Frost and even concentrates and vape cartridges made with the Jack Frost strain. The only difference between this review and our Jack Frost concentrates is that the concentrates are much more potent, ranging from 70-99% THC.
Lineage/Genetics: Jack Herer X Northern Lights #5 X White Widow
Classification: 70/30 Sativa-dominant hybrid
Potency: THC dominant, 17-23% THC
Appearance: Beautifully contrasting shades of light and dark green with bright orange pistils and a thin layer of trichomes.
Flavors: Sweet and earthy forward with very smooth smoke. Notably lemon aftertaste on the exhale.
Aromas: Sweet and citrusy with earthy and woody notes and a strong skunk scent.
Effects: Energizing yet relaxing. Uplifting, focusing, and motivating. Physical relaxation and mental euphoria.
Medical Uses: Depression, stress, fatigue, and pain relief can be managed with Jack Frost. It may also battle symptoms of ADD/ADHD for its focusing properties.
Possible Negatives: Dry eyes and cottonmouth are the most reported side effects of the Jack Frost strain. However, the strains potency and terpene profile is energizing and may cause anxiety in novice cannabis users or people who are sensitive to THC.
In-Depth Details: Jack Flash Strain Profile
Jack Frost is readily available at many medical dispensaries due to its balanced mix of potent effects that last longer than most. It was first propagated by cannabis breeders known as Goldenseed when they crossed Jack Herer (a potent sativa) with Northern Lights #5 (an indica) and White Widow (a balanced hybrid). The final cut was both frosty and favorable thanks to its potency levels ranging from 17-24% THC. Jack Frost gets its name from its frosted appearance and it's parent strains: Jack, from Jack Herer, and Frost, from the cross between White Widow and Northern Lights.
This daytime strain is a great choice for a variety of medical patients thanks to its good mix of effects that help without hindering. The initial impression is an uplifting and energizing sensation that makes it a good choice for battling stress and feelings of depression. It mellows into a uniquely motivating, creative, and focusing effect that is excellent for managing symptoms of ADD or ADHD that make focusing difficult. While the effects are primarily in the head, they also settle gently in the body, soothing sore muscles and relaxing aches and pains all day without getting that couch-locked feeling. If you suffer from fatigue, depression, pain, or a lack of appetite, there's a pretty good chance that you'll find daytime relief with the Jack Frost strain.
Jack Frost is also very impressive in the appearance and flavor department. Its heritage gives it a unique flavor combination that offers a great blend of sweet and earthy flavors. Many people who try it love it for its bright citrusy aftertaste comparable to lemons and its appetizing, smooth smoke that doesn't usually induce a ton of coughing. It's got kind of a funk to it that makes it taste more like a lemon that you found in the dirt, and while that doesn't sound appetizing, it really is. The scent is similar, though you can't smell the lemons that you taste on the exhale. Instead, its aromas include a sweet, nearly floral scent that contrasts well with earthier notes of wood and spice. It also has a strong skunk-like smell while it grows and when it gets ground up in a grinder.
Its appearance is beautiful in the sense that every part of the flower contrasts with everything else. Its calyxes range in a few shades of light to lime green that contrast beautifully with its dark green water and sugar leaves. These shades contrast together with its pistils which are a vibrant, fiery shade of orange. Each flower is covered in a layer of silvery trichomes that give Jack Frost its frosty appearance and house it's THC.
One thing to keep in mind though is that the potency of the Jack Frost strain in unison with its sativa-dominant properties may cause complications for people with THC sensitivity or people who are prone to sativa-anxiety. Other than that, it may also cause cotton mouth and dry eyes. All in all though, Jack Frost is a beauty that makes for powerful daytime medicine thanks to its flavors, appearance, and mix of effects.
The Epic Remedy's Jack Flash Strain Review
Jack Frost was one of the strains we had on rotation last week and I gotta say, I was more than stoked that it was sativa-dominant. Most people seem to prefer indicas, so those are always around, but a good sativa can be tricky to come by. I grabbed an 1/8th of it the last time I came in with our photographer to do some photos and had him take a few shots of it with the full intention of reviewing it in one of my profile write-ups.
I got it home and enjoyed most of it in one day. I was getting ready to drive across the country, so I needed some long term daytime energy to get my house clean, get my cats situated, clean up dog poo, wash my car, do a bunch of laundry, get my dogs packed up, find someone to come over and feed my insects while I was gone, and so on so forth. Queen of procrastination baybee. I waited till the last second to get everything done so I needed something to help me manage my anxiety but also keep me motivated and functional while I ran around for like 14 hours getting things ready.
Jack Frost didn't disappoint. It hit me with a potent burst of energy alongside a heavy dose of euphoria and stuck with me for hours before I needed to hit it again. I was basically walking on sunshine and rolling with the punches all day and late into the night with this one. Jamming out to music and not stressing in the slightest even though I normally would have been losing my everloving mind.
I was even able to get a workout in amidst all of that craziness. I didn't feel sore or stressed and I felt happy and motivated. My physical fatigue didn't get the best of me, either. The energetic effects and physical comfort were a perfect blend for me. While I didn't take any of it with me on my trip, I have been enjoying it all week for the errands I have to run during my workweek, since I missed my weekend out of town.
Plus, I love lemon-flavored weed. The citrusy kick always adds an extra burst of energy for me. The rest of the flavors were great, too. I especially liked that the smoke wasn't thick or peppery like many other strains. It was actually quite smooth and sweet, with a notable skunkiness.
All in all, Jack Frost scores high in all categories. I'd give her a 10/10. It has that textbook "this is good weed" appearance to it, but it's flavors and aromas are also mouth-watering. The potency levels and the long-lasting relief make it a great choice for the busy medical cannabis patient and can help you feel your best while getting things done. The only thing you may worry about is smoking this one without having something to do. It may cause a bit of anxiety if that's the case for you.
