In-Depth Details: Indiana Bubblegum Strain Profile
The Indiana Bubblegum strain, also known as IBG or Indy BG, is a 70/30 indica-dominant cross between two unknown indica-leaning plants. It was first propagated by the heads at Moscaseeds who then took the original offspring and backcrossed it with itself in an attempt to produce more prominent bubblegum aromas. They were successful in that department, but they were also able to improve the potency level of the original cross. The Indiana Bubblegum flower you can find on many Colorado dispensary shelves range from 16-22% THC.
Indiana Bubblegum plants grow similar to many standard indica crosses. The plants grow bushier with broad light green water leaves and their cola structure tends to be more compact than others. Each flower swells to pretty massive sizes as the strain is quite a high-yielder. The colas can be broken apart into many smaller flowers, and each one is dense and rounded with bright green features and golden undertones. The flowers contrast nicely with their sandy orange to amber colored pistils and the thick blanket of trichomes that covers the flowers inside and out.
The most interesting aspect of the strain is definitely its aroma, though. While growing, the strain tends to give off an earthier aroma, but when the flowers dry, they take on a very sweet, candy-like scent. The Indiana Bubblegum strain was named for its unique bubblegum-like aroma. Refined noses will also be able to detect lots of flowery notes alongside a generous earthiness. When the flowers burn, they take on a spicier scent similar to black pepper or patchouli. Indiana Bubblegum's essence comes from its primary terpenes, b-Caryophyllene, Terpinolene, and Ocimene. The presence of these terpenes in addition to a healthy dose of THC makes the IBG strain exceptionally medically viable in a phenomenon known as the entourage effect.
While Indiana Bubblegum offers some amazing scents, many people agree that the flavor is a bit lackluster in comparison. It doesn't taste bad, mind you. It just takes on a different flavor than the candylike scent caused by the Ocimene terpenes. Ocimene is sensitive to heat and degrades quite a lot when the strain is burned. With that said, while Indiana Bubblegum doesn't taste like bubblegum, it still tastes pretty great. The overall impression is that the strain is quite flowery and fragrant, with a sweet earthiness to it. The smoke itself is on the thicker side and tends to feel a little spicy, so there's a good chance it'll make you cough, though the exhale and lasting impression consists of spice, pepper, earth, and light floral notes.
As you exhale the strain, you'll feel the effects kicking in quickly. Indiana Bubblegum is quite cerebral in nature unlike many indica-dominant strains. The initial sensation is a potent cerebral rush of euphoria and positive energy. It's a great choice if you're looking to feel upbeat and creative. Best of all, it isn't an overpowering mental effect in the slightest, so it's a good choice if you need relief but still need to focus or boost your creativity. After the peak effects, you'll notice the Indiana Bubblegum strain begin to creep into your muscles and limbs. The strain offers a potent body buzz that soothes and relaxes the muscles and the organs, leading you to ultimate relief and relaxation.
These effects coupled with Indiana Bubblegum's modest 16-22% THC levels and potent terpene content make it a great choice for medical patients seeking relief from a variety of ills and ailments. Its ability to soothe and relieve makes it a great choice for dealing with nausea or a lack of appetite brought on by the side effects of chemotherapy or certain medications. The body high is great for dealing with pain and insomnia, too. The strain really shines in its cerebral effects as well, offering powerful relief from depression and stress.
All in all, Indiana Bubblegum is an exceptionally medically useful strain. Just keep in mind that it, like most other cannabis strains, may cause dry eyes and cottonmouth. This strain and other indicas may also cause couch-lock and a case of the munchies in higher doses. Cannabis is an excellent medicine for managing chronic symptoms, but keep in mind that it isn't a cure-all. It's just a safe, effective alternative for many chronic symptoms. For general use though, Indiana Bubblefum is one of the best strains out there for medical cannabis patients. It's medium potency levels combined with its helpful body buzz and positive cerebral effects make the strain a popular choice among patients who visit our dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.
The Epic Remedy's Indiana Bubblegum Strain Review
My first impression of the Indiana Bubblegum strain was that the nugs on the shelf at The Epic Remedy were exceptionally ( L O R G E ) and heavy so I immediately decided to sample some for myself. After all, I'd never seen or tried the strain before and it needed to be reviewed for our archive, so what the heck. When I made it back home, I was immediately impressed by the intense candy terps emanating from the bag. The strain quite literally smells like Hubba Bubba bubblegum though it does have that earthy weed-stank to it.
Impressed, I did a little photo shoot with the flowers. As you can see throughout this article, the strain is quite the looker. Beautiful, glistening flowers in shades of green and yellow with nice sandy orange pistils and a thick layer of trichomes. The whole time I was working with the strain, I was blown away by its disco ball appearance and candy-licious aroma.
That said, I was more than eager to pack it in and spark it up. These buds burned exceptionally well, filling the room with sweet and spicy terps with the smoke. The inhale was delicious, releasing woody terps and a fresh earthiness. The smoke itself was a little spicy, but there was still a pretty loud sweetness to it. It didn't taste like gum, but it did taste like sweetness, flowers, and rich black pepper.
I noticed the effects set in almost immediately. It filled me with a profound yet gentle euphoria that gave me a nice case of the giggles, which melted away my stress and all of the symptoms of depression that I deal with on a daily basis during the winter. It later settled in my body, relieving stress in my shoulders and low back. The high was very upbeat. I was still fully functional and didn't succumb to the indica couchlock that I was expecting to experience knowing I pulled the bag from the Indica box. I did however get a wicked case of the munchies all three times, so if you're looking to avoid that 11/10 don't recommend.
I'd say that this indica-dominant strain has clawed its way to the top of my list of indica strains. Indiana Bubblegum is great for managing pain as well as depression and nausea, though in high doses it's also great for finding some rest when you can't sleep. It also tastes and smells awesome, so if you haven't had the chance to try some for yourself, be sure to grasp some from any one of our three Colorado Springs medical dispensaries.
