In-Depth Details: Highway Cake Strain Profile

The Highway Cake strain is a balanced 50/50 hybrid cross between Chem I-95 and Wedding Cake. The strain was first propagated by the heads at Black Bag Seeds, who took a Chem I-95 plant, crossed it with Wedding Cake, and then backcrossed the offspring with the Chem I-95 mother. We know that the strain is a heady cross, checking in at a whopping 20-25% THC. This potency combined with primary terpenes like Limonene, Myrcene, and b-Caryophyllene makes for a very fragrant and gassy strain that takes more of a cerebral turn in terms of effects.

The strain itself is pretty easy on the eyes. It takes after both its parents in its appearance, taking on a variety of shades including a range of green and purple hues. Each semi-packed flower takes on a spade-like shape, and each one is completely coated in crystalline trichomes and orange and red pistils. As she grows, she boasts massive dark green water leaves and massive fragrant colas.

Highway Cake flowers are exceptionally fragrant, too. The strain gets a very aromatic, sweet, and floral scent from its Wedding Cake parent. However, brighter notes of citrus and fuel from its Chem I-95 parent can be detected on a deeper inhale. Overall, the strain emits an exceptionally sugary aroma with notes of a creamy nuttiness alongside earthier notes of citrus and fuel. It's definitely puzzling in a sense since you'll smell some of the more defining aromatic features of its lineage first.

The Highway Cake strain also boasts an excellent flavor. It's similar in a sense since it offers those creamy notes alongside some of the fruitier and earthier notes. If we had to pinpoint the exact flavor, it would be easy to compare it to eating a lemon cake in a gas station. An inhale will warrant more citrus and herbal notes, though the smoke itself is notably rich and creamy. The aftertaste is quite sweet with a fuel-like tinge and leaves an earthier flavor on the tongue. The final impression is that the Highway Cake strain is sweet and spicy.

As you exhale for the first time, you'll notice the effects taking hold. Highway Cake is a notably cerebral strain, especially for a hybrid. The first notable effect is of a speedy uplifted sensation and a gentle burst of energy that feels pretty relaxed and not at all overly-aggressive. The strain leads to a generous euphoric bliss, allowing you to go about your day with energy and a positive attitude. However, the strain also comes with a pretty soothing body buzz, too. The body high rarely becomes overwhelmingly relaxing, though in high doses it may lead to a little couchlock. It starts in the eyelids and quickly spreads down throughout the limbs leaving you feeling relieved from any physical symptoms you may be experiencing.

All in all, the strain offers a great mix of physical and mental relief, making it a pretty great strain for medical cannabis patients. Coupled with a potency level of around 20-25% THC, Highway Cake can soothe away stubborn symptoms and have you feeling your best. Reach for the Highway Cake strain to combat stress, depression, fatigue, or insomnia. You can also find pretty great results using the strain for managing physical symptoms, like chronic pain, muscle spasms, headaches, nausea, or a lack of appetite.

Just keep in mind that the Highway Cake strain, like most cannabis strains, may come with side effects. While most patients see normal side effects like cottonmouth or dry eyes, the strain may also cause anxiety or couchlock in high doses. Cannabis is an excellent medicine for managing chronic symptoms, but keep in mind that it isn't a cure-all. It's just a safe, effective alternative for many chronic symptoms. For general use though, Highway Cake is one of the best strains out there for medical cannabis patients. It's above-average potency levels combined with its helpful body buzz and generous cerebral effects make the strain a popular choice among patients who visit our dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.

The Epic Remedy's Highway Cake Review

I love a good hybrid! When I first saw this strain on the shelves, I was under the impression that it was a Highwayman cross with Wedding Cake, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that the cross is actually between Wedding Cake and Chem I-95, another strain we grow here at The Epic Remedy.

The bag I purchased smelled incredible, but hard to pinpoint. There are a lot of unique scents involved from such starkly different strains, but the odor is in no way offensive. It takes on a unique creamy sweetness and earthier notes of fuel and citrus, which are kinda strange when put together, but nonetheless, my mouth started watering when I took a deep whiff.

I packed it into a bowl and was blown away by the flavor. It tastes a lot like it smells but somehow better, which isn't always the case with plants in the Girl Scout Cookies family. Sometimes Cake/Cookies strains have this amazing aroma and lackluster flavor, but I think the Chem I-95 cross really saves face here. It takes on a gassy, citrusy flavor on the aftertaste but its smoke is super creamy and sweet. Overall whatever the secret sauce here is, it works.

The effects settled in immediately, and I felt them in my face first. Straight to the eyelids and the dome and I was immediately relaxed and relieved. I felt immediately uplifted and upbeat and found myself remarking the complexities of the flavors. The cerebral effect was very euphoric, so I just felt great and upbeat. It also gave me a little energy for some light household tasks, which is always a blessing, because nobody really LIKES to sweep the floors and wash the dishes.

After some time, the physical effects started to settle in. The high was upbeat and mellow the entire time, but I was also experiencing some deep physical relief in my low back and shoulders. I tripped on a cat toy and fell down the stairs this week (hilarious in hindsight) and have been experiencing some severe pain around my tailbone, but this strain masked that feeling entirely, so I can promise it works for the weird stuff.

Overall, the strain feels very balanced. Great mix of mental effects and physical relief that make the strain a good choice for symptom management at basically any time of day. If you haven't had the chance to try the Highway Cake strain for yourself yet, you can get a bag at any of our three Colorado Springs medical dispensaries.
