In-Depth Details: Headstash #2 Strain Profile

The Headstash #2 strain has become a fan favorite here in Colorado, and for good reason. While Headstash itself is an uber-popular kush-flavored indica, Headstash #2 is a phenotype best known for its more balanced effects and its incredible sweet flavor. It was first propagated by the heads at Karma Genetics when they took their original Headstash (which is a cross between Girl Scout Cookies, Cannarado's Cherrie Pie, and KarmaRado OG) and paired it with Biker Kush to get a more OG Kush flavor and make classic Headstash more flavorful.

From there, it was a matter of popping seeds until we found the perfect phenotype. We held on to Headstash #2 for its trichome production, unique scents, and more balanced effects. That said, Headstash #2 is genetically a 70/30 indica-dominant hybrid, though it feels more like a balanced 50/50 hybrid in terms of effects. Best of all, she checks in between 20-25% THC on average and is rich in terpenes like b-Caryophyllene, Myrcene, and Terpinolene which all help boost the effects of THC thanks to the Entourage Effect.

While growing, Headstash #2 tends to grow in a typical hybrid fashion, growing both tall and bushy with water leaves that are somewhere in between broad and narrow. Towards the end of her flowering cycle, her leaves change from dark green to shades of orange, yellow, and dark red. Her flowers grow in a semi-dense spade-shaped cola structure with vast top nugs and lots and lots of trichomes. Each one ranges in shades of light green with fiery red and orange pistils. As her buds dry, they become slightly subdued in color though each one has a notably frosted appearance that contrasts beautifully with her vibrant pistils.

While growing, she gives off more of that Kush-family funk aroma along with a pleasant fruity sweetness. However, as she dries the aroma becomes a little more subdued, just like her appearance. Don't get us wrong though, Headstash #2 is still exceptionally loud and has the power to completely envelop whichever container her flowers are being held in. Breaking the nugs open reveals some sour citrus terps as well as a dank musk similar to pine needles and earth. Ultimately the scent is very rich and creamy with lots of fruit and earth notes.

Headstash #2 has a flavor that is quite similar to its aroma with a splash of added depth. It's a strain that exists on the sweeter side of the spectrum, boasting bright sour citrus terps and sweet grape and berry flavors on the inhale. Much like the aroma, the smoke itself is very rich and full-bodied, offering a musky kush-like flavor alongside a sweet creaminess that is sure to make you cough. As you exhale, the lasting impression is of lemons and pine as well as tropical fruit, leaving behind a tasty and refreshing flavor on the tongue.

Breathing out that first exhale leads to a plethora of excellent effects, starting with a joyful cerebral effect that leads to a positive mental attitude, creativity, and a blissful euphoria. However, Headstash #2 also offers a potent body buzz that is great for a variety of physical symptoms or just helping you to unwind and relax at the end of the day. Much like Blue Dream, the strain may affect you differently based on when you smoke it and how much you enjoy. In higher doses, it's great for sleep and relaxation, though, in daytime doses, it's great for keeping you moving and feeling your best.

As far as medicinally useful strains go, Headstash #2 is one of our favorites thanks to its great mix of effects, higher than average THC content, and its extensive terpene profile. We think of it like Blue Dream, just a little more refined and a lot more flavorful. When taken during the day, it's great against fatigue; and when it's taken at night, it's great against insomnia. On the mental side, it beats depression and stress though its mellow high makes it a great choice against anxiety as well. However, Headstash #2 really brings the heat when it comes to physical relief, too. Headstash #2 belongs in any medicine cabinet for use against nausea or lack of appetite as well as headaches, pain, and muscle spasms.

However, like most medical cannabis, Headstash #2 does come along with a few side effects like dry eyes and cottonmouth. Its physical relief may also lead to a case of the munchies or couchlock, too. And for those who are sensitive to THC or the cerebral effects of cannabis, it may cause anxiety. With that in mind, be sure to start with a low dose with any new strain to see how it will affect you before taking a normal dose. Cannabis is an excellent medicine for managing chronic symptoms, but it isn't a cure-all. It's just a safe, effective alternative for the treatment and management of many chronic symptoms.

All in all though, Headstash #2 is a great choice for Colorado Springs medical marijuana patients seeking relief from physical and mental ailments at any time of day. Its cannabinoid and terpene potencies along with its balanced effects make it one of the most popular choices when it comes to strains among patients who visit our dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.

The Epic Remedy's Headstash #2 Strain Review

When strains are made available as seeds, there are often a ton of different phenotypes floating around from dispensary to dispensary. While Headstash isn't the most common strain in the state, there is sure to be a bit of genetic variation from dispensary to dispensary and extract company to extract company. But regardless, the version we grow here has easily become one of my favorites.

Classic Headstash was a 4-way cross between so many excellent strains, hailing from both the Girl Scout Cookies and OG Kush families. In fact, the original version crossed with Biker Kush earned 1st prize in the Best Indica category at the 2015 Amsterdam Elite Cup. That said, the phenotype we grow here is a little different.

I often compare it to Blue Dream, y'know, without all the inbreeding and counterfeit genetics. Much like how true Blue Dream is indica-leaning but offers a great mix of effects that makes it more of a daytime indica or balanced hybrid, Headstash #2 is in the same boat. The only difference is that I enjoy the flavor profile and effects of the Headstash #2 strain a helluva lot more. My first impression of it was its excellent scent and flavor profile similar to a fruit cocktail, but like, the fresh stuff and not the soupy stuff you can eat out of a can. However, those pungent earthy kush terps still shine through.

Genetically speaking, the strain is indica-leaning though I could tell you it was a hybrid or sativa and you'd probably agree with me since it really affects you more depending on how you're already feeling before you smoke it and what time of day it is. I smoked it the first time in the afternoon to help me eat and get to sleep, but the cerebral effects kept me up and feeling vibrant. However, I smoked it again in the morning after working late one night and it made me take a nap at like 10 AM since I was already tired.

Both times though, it had me feeling right as rain. It gave me a mental boost but it also helped me sleep. More importantly, it improved my appetite and helped me unwind since I exist in constant stress and anxiety and really need that out of my medicine. If you need relief from sore muscles and headaches too, Headstash #2 is absolutely where it's at.
