In-Depth Details: Hashberry Strain Profile
Hashberry has been a cannabis classic for about 15 years now. It took home an award for best indica strain in 2006, but has since found its way into hundreds of dispensaries for its potent medicinal uses and exceptional flavors. The strain was first propagated by Mandala Seeds when they crossed California Indica with Kashmir — two indica-dominant landrace strains. From there they popped seeds until they found Hashberry, which was kept for its beautiful appearance, average potency, and mouth-watering flavors and aromas. The strain checks in around 10-15% THC and offers a heavy helping of Myrcene, Ocimene, and b-Caryophyllene terpenes which all improve the strain's scent and boost its therapeutic value.
As we previously mentioned though, Hashberry is well known for its eclectic appearance. This strain grows in a standard hybrid fashion, producing large, trichome-laden top colas on stalk-like branches with broad dark green water leaves. The colas tend to swell to massive sizes, so when cultivating Hashberry it's a good idea to include a trellis or support system for the flowers towards the end of her lifecycle. When dried, each cola separates into many medium-sized oblong to spade-shaped flowers that tend to be on the lighter side of the spectrum. Each one throws light yellow-green to medium green colors with golden highlights throughout. The crown jewel of this alien-esque strain is of course her extremely vibrant and vivid pistils, which tend to be a fiery orange to red color.
Hashberry plants tend to take on a more delicate, sweet, and herbaceous aroma while they're growing, though the scent does refine quite a bit as the buds dry. Dried flowers tend to smell a lot funkier with more of those pungent earth tones shining through. It takes on a unique dank aroma with a spicy, peppery tingle towards the end. However, when the buds are ground up, a lot of those sweeter notes come back. Even further, you can detect hints of summer blueberries and a peppery mint-like aroma. When the buds are burned, they take on a sweet and spicy aroma interlaced with wood.
The flavor of the Hashberry strain isn't much different, though slightly more refined than the scent. An inhale will bring a lot of those earthy, peppery notes forward, leaving behind a very rich and almost spicy smoke that is almost guaranteed to make you cough. However, the strain really shines with its exhale and aftertaste. As the smoke sits in your mouth, you'll begin noticing a unique menthol-like flavor that will soothe the mouth a little bit as you exhale. The lasting impression is entirely of sweet, summer blueberries and a pungent minty finish.
Hashberry's effects take hold pretty quickly in the mind, though the body effects tend to creep up on you in some ways. You'll first feel the strain in the back of your head where it will soothe away any headaches or tension you're experiencing before lifting your spirits with a potent and blissful euphoria. This lift is known for making people feel pretty upbeat and happy, making a strong case of the giggles a pretty common effect. After a few minutes, the body high will begin to creep through your body soothing every muscle in your body and leaving you feeling ultimately relaxed and maybe even sleepy. This often makes way for a good case of the munchies or a noticeable decrease in nausea or chronic pain.
These effects coupled with an average potency of 10-15% THC along with a host of therapeutic terpenes like Myrcene, Ocimene, and b-Caryophyllene makes Hashberry one of the most popular medical strains in the last 20 years. While its a better choice for nighttime relief, many medical marijuana patients find it useful against aches and pains, headaches, nausea, and a lack of appetite. It's also a great addition to any medicine cabinet when it comes to reducing stress or symptoms of depression at nighttime. That said, its sleepy, soothing effects also make it a great choice for insomnia.
However, like most medical cannabis, Hashbery does come along with a few side effects like dry eyes and cottonmouth. Its physical relief may also lead to a case of the munchies or couchlock, too. And for those who are sensitive to THC or the cerebral effects of cannabis, it may cause anxiety. With that in mind, be sure to start with a low dose with any new strain to see how it will affect you before taking a normal dose. Cannabis is an excellent medicine for managing chronic symptoms, but it isn't a cure-all. It's just a safe, effective alternative for the treatment and management of many chronic symptoms.
All in all though, Hashberry is a great choice for Colorado Springs medical marijuana patients seeking relief from physical and mental ailments at nighttime. Its cannabinoid and terpene potencies along with its balanced effects make it one of the most popular choices when it comes to strains among patients who visit our dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.
The Epic Remedy's Hashberry Strain Review
Hashberry is fire. I've had the chance to sample it a few other times from a handful of other dispensaries, though most of the time I found the strain in Denver. To tell you the truth, I haven't seen it too frequently in the Springs. That said, I was pretty excited to learn that we grew it ourselves here in town. Generally speaking, I thoroughly enjoyed the strain's flavors and effects the other times I'd found it, and was expecting ours to be pretty good too just by looking at it so it was a bit of a no-brainer when it came to reviewing it this week.
The first thing I noticed was that the buds in my bag were a smidge smaller than the ones we photographed from our sample jars, but that's never been an issue for me since there are no stems to be found and I just run them through the grinder anyway. Either way though, both the sample buds and the buds I bought were beautiful and vibrant, which has come to be the standard for the strain.
They were also exceptionally fragrant, with those pungent earth tones taking point. It smells like a standard indica, though it has a unique menthol-like kick to it. However, it gets real mouth-watery when you grind the flowers up. Ground buds smell like purple Kool-Aid — exceptionally sweet and berry tinged. However, those dank and peppery earth notes are never too far away.
You taste those sweet and spicy peppery notes right off the first rip. Ultimately, I found the smoke to be pretty gentle considering how aggressive and sweet and spicy it smells. I honestly found it pretty refreshing, especially when those mint notes resurfaced during the exhale. The aftertaste is a lot like blueberries though notably earthy.
I love this strain, and that's no exaggeration. I loved it the first time I had it and I still love it the hundredth time I've had it. Since it's on the lighter end of the THC spectrum, it's a lot less overbearing mentally than many other strains we grow. That said, it's a very medicinal strain that way. It still feels every bit as flavorful and as potent as the others, though I have never once succumbed to the too-high scaries with Hashberry and that's a huge deciding factor when it comes to which strains I can actually use for medicinal reasons.
While the effects are pretty sleepy and chill, the THC never makes this strain too overbearing our couchlocky — at least for me. I frequently take a hit or two during the day to help me relax and focus while I work and to also manage my back pain. I also use it in higher doses at night if I'm having trouble sleeping or if anxiety is preventing me from getting a tasty meal in my belly. It's also great with friends, since the cerebral effects are super upbeat and positive.
