In-Depth Details: Area 51 Strain Profile
The Area 51 strain is extremely rare and frequently hard to come by here in Colorado. It's a balanced 50/50 hybrid strain with very slightly sativa-leaning effects. Not much is known about its specific origins, though. The strain is a bit of a genetic mystery with no clear indication of which family of strains it may have come from. Regardless, this heavy hitter is an excellent strain for medical patients thanks to its 15-23% THC levels and its unique mix of effects.
The flowers themselves are absolutely beautiful. In the jar, they're rather eye-catching thanks to their sheen of crystalline trichomes that give each nug a glittery appearance. It contrasts nicely with the shades of green hues that make up the nugs themselves as well as the piercing, electric orange pistils that seem to be extremely abundant within the Area 51 strain.
Area 51's aroma matches its unique appearance to a T. Opening the jar or the bag releases an extremely sweet and floral aroma that is often compared to the pink starburst. When the flowers are ground up or broken apart, they release more natural scents like mint, pine, and a dank earthiness. As it burns, it leaves behind woody and citrusy aromas. All in all, the lasting impression is of a candy-like sweetness with citrus and earthen notes.
The strain really shines with its flavor profile, though. Area 51 tastes just as delectable as it smells. An inhale brings earthier tones of wood and pine to the forefront. As the rich, creamy smoke fills your mouth and lungs, you'll start to notice a mouth-watering sweetness and a spicy floral kick that is sure to make you cough. The aftertaste is extremely sweet also, but with more pronounced flavors of lemon and citrus. The lasting impression is of a sweet, lemon candy.
As you exhale your first hit, you'll notice the effects of the Area 51 strain taking hold with force. The initial effect is a one-two punch between a powerful cerebral high and a soothing body buzz that will leave you feeling extremely uplifted and pain-free. From here, the cerebral buzz becomes notably euphoric yet focused, promoting motivation and inspiration and allowing your creative juices to flow. Soon a relaxing effect takes over, allowing you to slip into a comfortable state of mind and body for light tasks like housework or a trip to the great outdoors. As the high begins to level out, you'll notice a full-body state of calm leaving you feeling very mellow and perhaps a little sleepy depending on the size of your dose. Overall, Area 51 makes for great cannabis medicine thanks to these whole-body effects.
Our medical patients love the Area 51 strain for its ability to manage a variety of physical and mental symptoms. Coupled with its medium-range THC levels (15-23%), the strain is a great choice for combatting the symptoms of depression, chronic stress, fatigue, and even anxiety in some cases. It has a great mix of physical effects that make it a popular choice for managing pain and inflammation, cramps, nausea, and headaches. Most patients enjoy it with ease, though the strain (like most strains) is also known for causing cottonmouth and dry eyes.
All in all, the Area 51 strain is an uber-rare hybrid that is extremely popular at our Colorado Springs medical dispensaries for its out-of-this-world appearance, candy-like flavors, and balanced effects that make it a perfect any-time cannabis medicine.
The Epic Remedy's Area 51 Strain Review
To tell ya the truth, I really don't think I've seen Area 51 down here before. I've seen a million different versions of strains in the Alien family, so initially, I figured this one was an Alien Headband phenotype or somethin'. I checked in with the Epic team to get a clearer picture of the strain I was going to be reviewing and they gave me a little rundown on the strain that I could verify with some other sources when I actually sat down to write this profile and review.
Shocked to say that I'd never had this one before. I bought it this morning with no idea that I'd be bringing home a super rare, super dank strain. Heck, I photographed it with no idea what it was and was still super impressed with it. Not only was it extremely fragrant. but the flowers were glittery and eye-catching. The pistils on this bud were the most appealing to me though. Seriously, I'm still having trouble finding the words to express how vibrant and orange these babies are. My pictures don't do it justice.
After I had my photos out of the way, I sat down and researched the strain for the long review above. The more I read and compared to what I heard, looked at, and smelled had me feeling super antsy to finish so I could test the strain out myself. While most of the reviews online are accurate, I feel most of them lack in describing the aroma. This strain smells just as magical as it looks. It has a sugary sweet scent with floral notes, but it really shines when you grind it up. Area 51 explodes with a minty terp when agitated, but leaves you with notes of citrus and earth as the final impression.
I crammed some ground bud into my lil bowl and sparked it up. The smoke is extremely smooth and velvety and those unique mint terps are right at the helm, making it feel quite refreshing. It also leaves behind a lasting impression of sweet candies, flowers, and lemons which all support that invigorating vibe.
The high sets in almost immediately. I remember exhaling my first rip thinking "hmmm. minty." and then that was literally it for a few moments. No thoughts, head empty. With this strain, you're immediately hit with a sense of calm and relaxation mentally, and when your brain reconnects it floods with feelings of blissful euphoria and pure happiness. A very uplifting and helpful strain for the anxiety-prone. After a few minutes, the high sort of levels out and you'll notice potent relief in your body. I had a wicked headache when I sat down to write this and I feel a lot better at this point. I also feel a lot less sore in my low back and shoulders. I sit like a banana, so any strain that makes me feel like I don't do that is excellent in my book.
Regardless, the high is extremely balanced and mellow. Gently invigorating to the mind, but very soothing and relaxing in the body. The high never feels too jazzed up or energetic, either. Area 51 is also easy on the eyes, with a nearly alien-like appearance and an out of this world flavor profile. It's all-around a pretty impressive strain. If you haven't had the chance to try some yet, you can find it on the shelves at all three of our medical dispensaries here in Colorado Springs.
Oh yeah, this week's secret code is "I WANT TO BELIEVE". Thanks for checkin' it out!
